The winter soft wheat variety Sunrise 1 is a medium-early, high-yielding variety recommended for cultivation in forest-steppe and steppe zones. It has a vegetation period of 275–285 days and plant height of 70–95 cm with semi-erect plant habit and medium stem thickness. The ear is cylindrical, medium length (9–12 cm), and dense, with large kernels weighing 40.5–50 g per 1000 kernels. The grain is round, red in color, and belongs to the group of high-quality grains with protein content of 14.4–14.6 %.
The variety is characterized by high yield, reaching 6.18–6.87 t/ha, confirmed by variety trials where yield exceeded standard benchmarks. It is resistant to lodging, shattering, soil and air drought, heat-tolerant, and exhibits comprehensive resistance to many diseases of winter wheat, including powdery mildew, rust, and leaf septoria. Due to these traits, Sunrise 1 is suitable for cultivation on both regular and irrigated soils with good agrofond and sufficient soil moisture.
To achieve maximum yield potential, the recommended seeding rate is 4.5–5.5 million viable seeds per hectare, with application of mineral fertilizers throughout the vegetation period. The variety was developed by individual selection from hybrids Odessa-51, WS 1877, and Albatross Odessa, which ensured its combination of high agronomic and biological qualities such as early maturity, winter hardiness, resistance to stress factors, and high grain quality.
