Niva Odeska — this is an intensive, universal-purpose winter soft wheat variety developed by the Selection-Genetic Institute of the National Center for Seed Production and Variety Testing. The variety is characterized by xeromorphic structure, ensuring high adaptability to dry steppe conditions. It features a large, well-filled ear containing 62 to 82 grains, and high productive tillering. Niva Odeska belongs to the medium-early maturity group, maturing simultaneously with the Antonovka variety. It is recommended for cultivation in the steppe and forest-steppe zones of Ukraine and is suitable for planting after non-rotational predecessors.
Plants reach a height of 96 to 112 cm, with a 1000-grain weight of 42–52 g. Protein content in the grain ranges from 13.2–14.1%, and gluten content is 28.3–30.2%. The potential yield potential of the variety is 7.9 to 10.2 t/ha. Niva Odeska exhibits high winter hardiness and drought resistance, making it a reliable choice for various agroclimatic conditions, including low and medium fertility soils. The variety shows good response to nitrogen fertilizer application, which contributes to increased productivity.
Additionally, Niva Odeska is resistant to major fungal diseases such as brown and yellow rust, powdery mildew, pyrenophorosis, and fusarium ear rot. It also demonstrates resistance to shattering and grain germination in the ear. The variety tends to show increased resilience when sown early, broadening its agronomic application possibilities. Registered in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 2014–2015 and produced by Stepnaya.
