Kievskaya 21 — a glumeless, high-yielding wheat variety belonging to the Lutescens and Erythrospermum groups. It is a medium-maturing variety, ripening in 270–275 days. The plant is erect, with a thick, strong, slightly hollow stem, 87–103 cm tall. The ear is cylindrical, medium length (8–10 cm), loose, with 21–22 spikelets per 10 cm of rachis length. The grain is red, medium in length and width, with a 1000-grain weight of 40.4–48.0 g. Grain density is 744 g/l, with a 93% glass-like quality.
The variety is characterized by high drought tolerance and resistance to lodging (8 points), shattering (8 points), seed germination in the ear, as well as root rot, septoria, Fusarium ear rot, powdery mildew, and brown rust (7–8 points). Winter hardiness is 85%. In terms of quality, this is a valuable wheat variety with protein content of 14.0–14.5% and gluten up to 30.0%. Dough strength reaches 330–361 o.a., sedimentation — 67 ml, ensuring good milling and baking properties, with bread volume close to 1200 mm.
Kievskaya 21 is recommended for cultivation in the forest-steppe, steppe, and Polissia zones of Ukraine. It tolerates high planting density and demonstrates stable yields, approximately 5.25 t/ha in competitive trials, and up to 8.6 t/ha in other data. This variety combines high productivity, disease resistance, and grain quality, making it attractive for farmers seeking high-quality wheat yields.
