FOTINYA

Fotinya is a variety of soft winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) with a medium-to-late maturation period, recommended for cultivation in the Middle Volga and Ural regions, including the Republic of Mordovia, the Republic of Tatarstan, Penza, and Ul'yanovsk oblasts. The growing season lasts 288-316 days, with this variety maturing 1-3 days earlier than standard varieties. The plant is of medium height, reaching 78-109 cm, featuring a pyramidal, white ear of medium density and medium length. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 34 to 42 grams. The average yield in the region is about 19.7 c/ha, which is 1.8 c/ha higher than the standard average, while the maximum yield reached 59.6 c/ha in the Republic of Tatarstan. The variety is distinguished by increased winter hardiness and drought resistance at a level equal to or above standard varieties. In terms of lodging resistance, it lags behind some varieties by 0.5-0.7 points. Under field conditions, Fotinya is weakly affected by powdery mildew, brown rust, and snow mold, ensuring crop stability even under adverse weather conditions. These characteristics make the variety suitable for cultivation in arid regions and on less fertile soils, expanding its industrial application possibilities. The bread-making qualities of the variety are at the level of a good filler, confirming its suitability for producing high-quality flour.
