Originator — Institute of Plant Growing named after V.Ya.Yuryev, NAAN.
Year of inclusion in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine — 2009, recommended for cultivation in the steppe zone of Ukraine.
Trial characteristics: variety erythrospermum. Ear pyramidal in shape, 9-10 cm long, medium density (21-22 nodes per 10 cm of stem). Grain red, oval-shaped with broad hairy awn, medium size. Thousand-grain weight 41.0 g.
Biological features: medium-maturing variety, belongs to medium-height type, plant height is 95 cm, stem medium thickness, strong, resistant to lodging with moderate waxy coating on upper internodes. Plant form semi-erect. Has high branching and capable of forming more than 700 productive tillers per 1 m2. Exhibits increased winter hardiness, which under artificial freezing equals 7.5 points. Tolerant to major diseases under field conditions. Resistant to root diseases under controlled conditions.
Agronomic characteristics: high-yielding variety, potential yield 11.0 t/ha. In the 2008 institute trial, the yield was 9.15 t/ha. In the «Elite» experimental farm of Kharkiv region in 2012, the yield was 7.0 t/ha. The average yield across eight steppe farms in Ukraine was 7.07 t/ha, with the maximum at 8.38 t/ha on the Krasnogvardeyskaya farm. Quality meets requirements for strong wheat. Protein content 12.9–14.3%, gluten — 25–28%, flour strength — 280–370 o.a., loaf volume from 100 g of flour 680 ml.
Agronomic requirements. Variety of universal use, not demanding of cultivation conditions. Suitable for cultivation after various preceding crops, best are black fallow, occupied fallow, perennial grasses, corn for silage. Grown using conventional and intensive technologies, maximum yield is achieved under intensive technology and optimal doses of mineral fertilizers. Protection against diseases and pests is required during cultivation. Seeds should be treated with fungicide in combination with insecticide before sowing. Sowing period optimal for winter wheat.
Seed sowing rate is 4.5 million viable seeds per 1 ha after fallow, 5.0 million for non-fallow preceding crops.
Variety characteristics: Exceptional drought resistance.
