Year registered in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine — 2010.
Method of creation: the winter soft wheat variety 'Vernut' (synonym 'Priazovskaya 174') was developed by combining morphologically homogeneous lines selected under contrasting conditions from hybrid populations resulting from crosses between varieties Astet, Volzhskaya nizkostebelnaya, Goritsa, erythrospermum 92, RSV 465.
Trial characteristics: variety erythrospermum — nigriaristatum. Plant medium height (90 — 110 cm). Ear white, awned, cylindrical — slightly spindle-shaped, large (9 — 11 cm), medium density. Glume of the ear lanceolate shape, almost bare on the inner side. Auricle sharp, straight — slightly curved, short — medium length. Awns rough, serrated, medium length at the ear tip — long, usually straw-colored, occasionally black during high temperatures during grain filling. Kernel red, large (1000 kernels weight 39 — 48 g), oval-egg shaped.
Biological characteristics: medium-early maturing variety, ripens within 240 — 315 days depending on region and weather conditions. Winter hardiness above average, drought and heat resistance increased. High resistance to lodging and shattering (8 — 9 points). High resistance to main diseases: brown, stem and yellow rust, powdery mildew, and scab (7 — 9 points).
Agronomic characteristics: potential yield exceeds 9 t/ha. Achieved in 2009 — 2010 on variety trials in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Cherkasy and Donetsk regions, reaching 7.2 — 9.4 t/ha. In competitive variety trials, average yield of the variety was 6.7 t/ha, standard 'Khars 6' — 6.0 t/ha. Highly ecologically adaptable. Belongs to the group of strong wheat. Flour strength 280 — 400 o. a., bread volume from 100 g of flour without improvers 580 — 750 ml, overall baking quality 7.5 — 9.0 points.
Agronomic requirements: universal use variety, suitable for cultivation after best preceding crops (fallow, peas, clover, legume-grain mixtures, potatoes), as well as on medium and low fertility soils. Sowing rate 4.5 — 5.5 million germinating seeds per hectare at optimal sowing dates for the region.
