Vetch PRIOBSKAYA 25

Siberian Genetics for Protein-Rich Forage

The Priobskaya 25 vetch variety, developed by the IC&G SB RAS, is engineered for resilience and high nutritional output. Designed specifically for late autumn (pre-winter) sowing, this variety leverages winter-spring moisture reserves, ensuring a head start in the growing season. It is primarily used for green fodder and hay production, consistently yielding a protein content between 20% and 24%.

Technical Specifications and Morphological Data

• 1000-seed weight: 40-55 g. This relatively high weight is crucial for establishing a robust root system before the onset of dormancy.
• Crop Type: Vetch (Vicia), bred for high-efficiency forage production.
• Sowing period: Late autumn (pre-winter), which allows for earlier spring biomass accumulation compared to traditional spring sowing.

Operational Benefits

The technical advantage of Priobskaya 25 lies in its ability to begin vegetation immediately after snowmelt, utilizing early-season moisture that spring crops often miss. The seed mass (up to 55 g) facilitates vigorous initial growth, which is essential for uniform crop density in the field. By choosing this variety, producers can optimize their machinery scheduling and reduce the spring workload while maintaining a high protein-to-fiber ratio in the resulting forage. This makes it a strategic choice for operations prioritizing sustainable and high-quality livestock feeding systems.
