Pyrite is a mineral with the formula FeS₂, characterized by a hardness of 6–6.5 on the Mohs scale and a density of 5–5.2 g/cm³. Its metallic luster and light-gold or brass color make it resemble gold, although it is not a precious gemstone. Pyrite has a brittle structure with an uneven fracture, reflecting its natural brittleness.
In the past, pyrite was used as a substitute for gold in various products, as well as in the manufacture of gunpowder and sulfur. Today, it is popular among jewelers and collectors: it is often combined with hematite, spinel, jasper, or pearls to create gold and silver jewelry. Pyrite is also used as a mirror in magical practices.
In terms of astrology, pyrite is associated with the Fire element and suits people born under the signs of Leo, Sagittarius, Aries, Libra, and Scorpio. For Cancer and Virgo, caution is advised. In traditional medical practice, pyrite is considered a means of preventing infections, stabilizing circulation, stimulating the bronchi, and aiding in infertility.
