Tulip Davenport

Aesthetics and Resilience in Landscape Design

The 'Davenport' tulip is a fringed variety prized by both professional landscapers and home gardeners. It is favored not only for its unique petal texture but also for its predictable vegetation cycle. Its mid-season bloom makes it an ideal choice for filling the transition period between early spring bulbs and summer perennials.

Planting Scenarios and Maintenance

• Flowerbed Design: With its intense red-lilac color and distinct fringe, this variety serves as a perfect focal point. Planting in dense groups creates a stunning 'carpet' effect, where the decorative fringes catch the light brilliantly.
• Container Gardening: The medium stem height makes 'Davenport' suitable for pots and balcony boxes, maintaining structural integrity even in breezy spring conditions.
• Cut Flowers: The variety features excellent bloom density, making it highly suitable for floral arrangements, often lasting longer in a vase than many other fringed varieties.

Agronomic Potential

The key practical advantage of 'Davenport' is its biological resilience. In soils prone to compaction or legacy pathogens from previous vegetable crops, this variety shows proven resistance to potato cyst nematode, potato wart disease, and common scab. This simplifies crop rotation significantly, as you don't need to worry if the plot was previously used for potatoes or other nightshades. When planting, we recommend burying the bulb to three times its height in well-drained soil to ensure robust root development and a vibrant, long-lasting display in mid-season.
