Tulip Karel Doorman

Exotic aesthetics with a Dutch legacy

The 'Karel Doorman' tulip is a true icon among parrot tulips, blending intricate petal texture with a deep, vibrant red hue. Named after the famous Dutch admiral, this variety carries the prestige of Netherlands' bulb breeding. It belongs to the mid-season flowering group, reliably signaling the height of spring with its dramatic, architectural blooms.

Visual appeal and agrotechnical profile

The defining feature of 'Karel Doorman' is its fantastically curved, fringed, and ruffled petals that mimic the exotic plumage of a parrot. Unlike standard varieties, this hybrid draws attention with its complex, sculptural geometry. Its medium stature makes it highly versatile, suitable for both garden border arrangements and professional floral displays.

• Class: Parrot Tulip.
• Flowering time: Mid-season.
• Color: Intense red.
• Disease Resistance: Notable resistance to potato wart, late blight, and common scab.

Beyond its striking appearance, the 'Karel Doorman' is prized for its robustness. A critical advantage of this hybrid is its resistance to common fungal and bacterial diseases, making it more reliable and easier to maintain than many other delicate parrot varieties.

Market positioning and usage

In the modern ornamental market, this variety remains a staple for landscapers and florists. Its ability to serve as a high-impact centerpiece makes it a favorite for bedding schemes. When used for cut flowers, the 'Karel Doorman' provides a long-lasting, exotic touch to any bouquet. For optimal results in the garden, it is recommended to plant it in sunny, wind-protected spots to preserve the integrity of its delicate, fringed petals.
