Agronomic Profile of IR Legit: Breeding for Stable Yields

The spring triticale variety "IR Legit" is a new development from the V.Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute, officially registered in Ukraine in 2025. Created through complex hybridization, this variety balances biological traits for efficient cultivation in the Forest-Steppe and Polissya zones.

Field Performance and Morphology

The plant exhibits a semi-erect habit with a moderate waxy bloom on the ear and the flag leaf sheath, serving as a vital adaptive mechanism against moisture loss. The medium stem height, combined with dense pubescence of the sub-ear internode, provides the crop with excellent lodging resistance, which is critical for intensive farming technologies.

• Ear: Pyramidal in shape, moderately dense, with a flexible axis, minimizing grain loss during mechanical harvesting.
• Development: The variety is characterized by an average heading time. Awns are distributed along the entire length of the ear, enhancing photosynthesis during the generative phase.
• Grain: Features an elongated shape and dark coloration in phenol tests, indicating high protein quality.

Adaptability and Use

The primary use of "IR Legit" is grain production. Due to its spring growth habit, the variety fits perfectly into crop rotations in the Forest-Steppe and Polissya regions, allowing for the efficient use of spring moisture reserves. The genetic plasticity developed by the Kharkiv breeding school enables the variety to respond stably to changing weather conditions, maintaining flower fertility even under stress during the ear formation period.
