IZHEVSKAYA 2

IZHEVSKAYA 2 is a winter triticale variety intended primarily for forage use. It belongs to mid-early maturing varieties with a vegetation period ranging from 306 to 329 days. The plants are characterized by significant height — from 110 to 159 cm, with a semi-spreading or spreading bush type. The grain is of medium size, semi-long, red in color, with the weight of 1000 grains varying from 38.8 to 49.3 grams. The ear is of medium length, dense, fully awned, with short or medium-length awns. The plant appearance includes a weak waxy coating on the sheath of the flag leaf and variable pubescence of the stem neck from very weak to strong. The variety was created using the method of multiple individual selection for productivity and represents a complex genetic population of hexaploid triticale. The average grain yield in the Volga-Vyatka region is about 27.8 centners per hectare, while maximum grain yield indicators reached 53.0 centners per hectare. Dry matter yield averages 44.6 centners per hectare. The variety possesses winter hardiness at the level of standards, however, it is prone to lodging under high fertilizer levels and high sowing rates. Regarding diseases, the plant is susceptible to snow mold, weakly affected by septoria, and moderately — brown rust. To increase resistance and prepare plants for the winter period, a comprehensive treatment of seeds and crops with biological preparations is recommended. Such treatment contributes to increased bushiness of plants and an increase in sugar content in the tillering node, which improves their winter hardiness. The duration of autumn vegetation is about 54-59 days, and the formation of shoot length depends on weather conditions and can vary from 17.2 to 19.7 cm. Thus, IZHEVSKAYA 2 is a reliable and productive triticale variety adapted to the conditions of the Volga-Vyatka region and providing stable forage yields.
