Oleksandra is the first winter triticale variety of alternative development type (two-row) in Ukraine, intended for bread-making, feed, and technical use. Registration year: 2020. Recommended for cultivation in the forest-steppe and Polissia regions, both for autumn and spring sowing. The variety belongs to the suberythrospermum subspecies and is characterized by medium maturity for autumn sowing and medium-late maturity for spring sowing. Plant height ranges from 90-110 cm, depending on growing conditions.
The Oleksandra variety exhibits high resistance to lodging (9 points), winter hardiness (7.5-8.0 points), high drought resistance (9 points), and disease resistance (8.5-9.0 points). Grain has an elongated, smooth shape with 1000-grain weight of 42-46 g. Protein content in grain ranges from 13.0 to 16.0%, and raw gluten content from 28-34%. Bread-making quality indicators include gluten deformation index (IDK) of 50 units, flour strength of 200 units of activity, and bread volume without improvers reaching 600 ml. Overall bread-making quality score for the variety is 8.5 points, indicating high milling and baking qualities.
Oleksandra triticale has high yield potential: it exceeds 12.0 t/ha for autumn sowing and exceeds 6.5-7.0 t/ha for spring sowing. The variety is highly tolerant to complex preceding crops, making it effective for crop rotation. Triticale is widely used not only in baking but also in animal and poultry feed, as well as in confectionery and distilleries. This crop complements the green conveyor, providing high-quality green feed during the inter-harvest periods between winter wheat and the first harvest of perennial grasses, thus enabling efficient land use without the need to grow winter wheat for green feed.
