SEABIRD (Sunflower HTS) is a linoleic-type hybrid developed by Syngenta, characterized by high yield potential and stability under various growing conditions. This medium-maturing, medium-height hybrid features good leafiness and high growth energy in early vegetative stages. It is optimized for use with FMC’s herbicide Express®, enabling effective weed control and improved crop quality. Seeds are treated with a fungicidal protectant, enhancing disease resistance and promoting successful plant development.
SEABIRD demonstrates high tolerance to major sunflower diseases, including fusarium, downy mildew, white mold (both stem and head forms), phomopsis, sclerotinia, rust, and alternaria. The hybrid is also resistant to lodging and exhibits low sensitivity to temperature fluctuations, making it a reliable choice for cultivation during dry periods. Additionally, SEABIRD is resistant to seven main races of the sunflower moth (A–G) and some new forms of this pest.
The hybrid is recommended for cultivation in steppe (central and northern) and forest-steppe zones of Ukraine, where it yields between 24.2 and 45.8 c/ha depending on climatic conditions and cultivation technology. Recommended seeding rates vary according to soil moisture: 35–45 thousand seeds per hectare under low moisture, 45–55 thousand under moderate moisture, and 50–55 thousand seeds per hectare under sufficient moisture. Seeds are black in color, the head diameter is approximately 21 cm, and oil content in the seeds is 50–52%, making this hybrid attractive for oil production.
