Rurik

Rurik sunflower is a high-yielding Ukrainian hybrid developed by breeders of the Institute of Plant Industry named after Yuryev V.Ya. This hybrid is intended for cultivation in steppe and forest-steppe zones, where it demonstrates excellent adaptation to local climatic conditions. Rurik is distinguished by high resistance to various diseases such as false powdery mildew, gray and white mold, and also has tolerance to Sclerotinia. In addition, it is resistant to drought and stem lodging, ensuring stable yields even under adverse weather conditions.

The vegetation period of Rurik sunflower is 101-103 days, which classifies it as an early-maturing hybrid. The height of the mature plant reaches approximately 160 cm, and the diameter of the convex head is about 20 cm. The oil content of mature seeds is 51%, with huskiness equal to 22%, and shelliness — 99.7%. The potential yield of the hybrid reaches 41 centners per hectare (4.1 tons per hectare), at an optimal planting density of about 50,000 plants per hectare.

Rurik sunflower is primarily used for oil production due to its high oil content in seeds. Its high resistance to shattering and lodging facilitates harvesting and reduces yield losses. All these characteristics make Rurik a reliable choice for farmers seeking efficient and stable production of oilseed crops in steppe and forest-steppe regions.
