Beet sugar variety Janosik is a heat-loving and heat-tolerant crop, optimally developing at 20-22°C, but capable of effective photosynthesis even at temperatures above 40°C. Seeds of this variety germinate over a wide temperature range from +4 to 17°C, with emergence time directly depending on germination temperature and varying by 10-15 days. Due to its well-developed root system, capable of absorbing moisture from depths of about 2.5 meters, Janosik demonstrates high drought resistance. The crucial period for water supply is July–August, when root growth is most intensive. Sugar beet of this variety can withstand frosts down to -5°C without damaging sugar accumulation, although lower temperatures may negatively affect this process.
Janosik variety is distinguished by high yield potential and sugar content. The leaf rosette is medium-sized, dark green, and spreading in shape, while the root is oval-conical with 85% soil penetration. This variety is resistant to drought, cold, various diseases, and bolting, ensuring good storability of the product. Harvesting is recommended at medium maturity to optimally utilize its agronomic advantages.
Special attention is given to seed priming of Janosik — pre-sowing treatment, which improves germination speed, uniformity of seedlings, and resistance to adverse conditions. Studies have shown that priming increases sugar content in roots, reduces α-amino nitrogen levels, and improves technological yield of white sugar. Seeds of the Janosik variety are also characterized by resistance to rhizomania, further enhancing their reliability and efficiency in cultivation.
