Sugar beet FD SURF

French Breeding for High Profitability

In sugar beet cultivation, selecting a hybrid is all about risk management. FD Surf from Florimond-Desprez Veuve et Fils is designed for growers who refuse to compromise between yield volume and sugar content. As an NZ-type (normal sugar) hybrid with NE (normal yield) characteristics, it provides the exact balance required for a stable sugar output per hectare.

Disease Resistance as a Yield Foundation

The primary advantage of FD Surf is its comprehensive resistance to pathogens. In modern farming, where Rhizomania and Cercospora can diminish yields by 30-40%, the hybrid’s genetic protection acts as a vital safety net. Notably, it shows strong tolerance to Aphanomyces root rot—a hidden threat often overlooked until significant stand loss occurs. Furthermore, FD Surf demonstrates robust resistance to powdery mildew, allowing for optimized fungicide application schedules.

Agronomic Potential and Specifications

• Ploidy: Diploid, ensuring predictable and uniform plant development.
• Quality Metrics: Sugar content remains consistently in the 18-19% range.
• Planting Density: Optimal results are achieved at a density of 100,000–110,000 plants per hectare.

The medium-sized, well-formed roots facilitate efficient mechanical harvesting, minimizing field losses. This is an excellent choice for agricultural enterprises targeting predictable outcomes on fields with moderate to high infectious pressure.

Why Choose FD Surf?

This hybrid is the «golden mean» for producers who value consistency. If your fields require protection against standard beet diseases but you are unwilling to sacrifice yield potential for specialized traits, FD Surf provides a reliable foundation for your crop rotation. Its strength lies in stability under vegetative stress. While it requires strict adherence to planting density to maximize root size, its performance under pressure makes it a reliable asset for any professional grower.
