Selecting seeds for sugar beet is always about finding the right balance between sugar content and disease resistance. We chose the «Zappa» hybrid by Strube because of its proven field performance. In our region, it is critical to have a root crop that does not succumb to Cercospora and provides a high sugar yield. During the growing season, you immediately notice the uniformity of emergence. The oval-conical shape of the roots is ideal for mechanized harvesting — the beets sit at the right depth in the soil, and the tops are easy to remove, which significantly reduces harvest losses.

Disease Protection and Crop Quality

Rhizomania and root rot are the main threats that can wipe out a crop before mid-summer. «Zappa» proves itself as a resilient choice: its genetic resistance allows us to optimize fungicide applications, as the plant effectively resists Cercospora on its own. In the field, this means a clean, healthy leaf rosette remains until autumn, which is crucial for photosynthesis and sugar accumulation.

• NZ Type (Normal-Sugar): Consistent sugar content at 20–21%.
• Harvesting: Average root size with high uniformity, which minimizes clogging in beet harvesters.
• Storage: The dense structure of the root ensures excellent shelf life if immediate delivery to the processing plant is delayed.

From an operator's perspective, Strube has provided a tool that offsets potential agrotechnical errors through strong natural immunity. For farms where soil fatigue and disease pressure are real concerns, this hybrid acts as a reliable insurance policy against lower yields.
