Description FD Kung Fu
Sugar beet variety FD Kung Fu is a mid-season hybrid with a vegetation period of approximately 120-142 days, developed by French breeders of the company Florimond Depres. The roots have a cylindrical-conical shape, average weight ranging from 700 to 910 grams, and soil penetration reaching 87%. The root surface is relatively smooth, facilitating mechanized harvesting and reducing soil adhesion. The leaf rosette is semi-spreading, with moderately wrinkled leaf blades, and the root system is taprooted, penetrating to a depth of up to 2.5 meters, providing good drought resistance and efficient utilization of water from deep soil layers. FD Kung Fu is characterized by high sugar content — sugar content in roots reaches 15.8%, making it attractive for technical use in sugar and molasses production. Additionally, the variety is resistant to several diseases, including cercospora, powdery mildew, and root rot, enhancing crop reliability and reducing losses during storage. The yield of the variety is approximately 681 centners per hectare, indicating its high productivity and economic efficiency. The crop is heat-loving and heat-tolerant, with optimal growth temperature of 20-22°C, although photosynthesis successfully proceeds even at temperatures above 40°C. Seeds germinate within a wide temperature range from +4 to +17°C, with emergence time depending on soil temperature. Sugar beet FD Kung Fu requires adequate moisture, especially during the intensive root growth period in July-August. During the pre-harvest period, the plant can withstand frosts down to -5°C without damage to sugar accumulation. The variety is versatile in application: used in culinary practices for making borscht and kvass, as a fodder crop, and for technical purposes.
