Fortuna is a variety of sorghum grass (Sorghum xdrummondii), an annual plant of the Poaceae family. It is tall, reaching up to 250 cm, with a dry stem thickness of 8‑10 mm and a height range of 180‑220 cm. The root system penetrates deeply, providing drought resistance and adaptability to various climatic conditions.
The fodder value of Fortuna is high: 100 kg of hay contains about 57 fodder units and 7.4 kg of protein. Young plants are rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, carotene, and trace elements Fe, Mg, Zn, Mn, K. Sorghum hay leads other grasses in protein content; 100 kg equals 17 FE, and 1 ts of hay – 52 FE.
Resistance to lodging and drought meets standards. Dry matter yield varies by region: up to 52 ts/ha in the Ural region, 38.6 ts/ha in the West Siberian region, and about 49.4 ts/ha in the Lower Volga region. When mowing, a height of 6‑8 cm is recommended; the first cut is made 65‑70 days after sowing, the second – 40‑45 days later, and the third – 30 days later, allowing for up to four cuts per season.
Fortuna is suitable both for green fodder and hay. Thanks to its high productivity and nutritional value, it provides quality feed for livestock, including pigs. The recommended manual sowing rate is 2 kg per 100 m², and 20‑25 kg/ha when using a seeder.
