TURAN 2 is a variety of sorghum (Sorghum xdrummondii) characterized by high yield and excellent nutritional properties, making it in demand for both green fodder and hay production. The plant belongs to the mid-early maturity group, features an erect bush with medium density, a long stem, and leaves of medium length. The panicle is drooping and pyramidal, while seeds are elliptical and light brown.
Sorghum TURAN 2 exhibits good drought resistance and adaptability to weather conditions. Thanks to its deeply penetrating root system, the plant recovers quickly after mowing, allowing for several cuts per season (usually 2-4). The recommended mowing height is 6–8 cm, and the vegetative period can reach up to 120 days. With proper sowing and care, green mass yield reaches 39 t/ha, and dry matter yield is approximately 8.7 t/ha.
The nutritional value of TURAN 2 hay is high: protein content in green mass is about 11%, and carbohydrates are 70%. In young plants, protein content reaches its maximum, making it excellent feed for livestock, including pigs. Additionally, sorghum is rich in vitamins A and B complex (B1, B2, B6), trace elements Fe, Mg, Zn, Mn, K, and carotene. Hay from this grass has an energy value comparable to young corn silage.
TURAN 2 also has a beneficial effect on the soil: it suppresses weed growth, improves soil structure and water-holding capacity, which enhances the agro-system's resistance to erosion. Thanks to these properties, the variety is widely used in agriculture to ensure quality animal nutrition and increase the productivity of pasture lands.
