The Sudan grass variety «Julia» is an annual grass grown as a feed crop for cattle, horses, and sheep. It is distinguished by its mild flavor and pleasant aroma, making it attractive to both animals and farmers. Fresh grass is rich in nutrients: sugar, protein, ash, vitamins, and minerals, providing complete nutrition for livestock.
«Julia» was developed at the Nizhne-Volga Research Institute of Agriculture through individual selection from multiple free pollination of the «Mironovskaya 10» variety. The variety is characterized by a medium maturation period – 104–110 days from germination, good tillering, and high yield of both green mass and dry matter. Resistance to bacterial diseases makes it a reliable choice for farm enterprises.
The variety is suitable for the production of green feed, hay, and silage. On average, yields in the Central Black Earth region are about 105 c/ha, while in the North Caucasus region they are approximately 89 c/ha. With proper agronomy, up to five cuts can be made per year, harvesting over 1000 centners of grass per hectare. Thanks to high protein content (≈12%) and biologically available carbohydrates (≈46%), «Julia» ensures effective animal feeding, increasing their productivity.
