Ryegrass "RUSA" is a perennial grass characterized by high resistance to trampling and the ability to quickly recover from mechanical damage. Thanks to its highly branched root system, the lawn remains dense and lush even under intensive use by livestock or in sports grounds.
The grass features a thin, soft stem and an upright bush, making it pleasant to the touch and visually appealing. The optimal growth temperature is 18–25 °C; it germinates at temperatures above +2 °C and can withstand moderate frosts, although snowless winters may pose a threat.
The benefits of ryegrass are evident both as a lawn and in the feed sector. With proper care, it grows for at least five years, and after each mow it forms new side shoots, increasing the density of the cover. Mowing frequency depends on humidity and temperature: usually 2–3 times per season with natural irrigation, up to 5–6 times with irrigation. In lawn mixes, it often combines with fescue and sheep's fescue, providing a rapid decorative effect.
In the feed sector, ryegrass is valued as a highly nutritious feed: green mass reaches 300–400 c/ha, and hay – 70–110 c/ha. It is easily digested by animals and is widely used on pastures and for feed preparation. Moreover, ryegrass serves as a good cover crop, improving soil structure and increasing its fertility due to the abundant number of roots in the plow layer.
