Description Konstantinivs'ke
Konstantinivs'ke millet is a medium-early variety of Panicum miliaceum L. of the aureum group, developed by the Institute of Plant Growing named after V.Ya. Yur'ev of NAAN and included in the State Register of Varieties of Ukraine since 2006. This variety is characterized by medium plant height — from 110 to 130 cm, which ensures resistance to lodging and prevents grain shattering even at technical maturity. The vegetation period is approximately 67-75 days, allowing the variety to mature 10-12 days earlier than standard varieties. The 1000-grain weight ranges from 7.0-7.4 g. Konstantinivs'ke millet is characterized by high yield, reaching 4.5-5.0 t/ha under optimal conditions, and 1.5-2.0 t/ha when grown in post-grain and post-oilseed crops. The variety has increased protein content in the grain — up to 14%, which improves its consumer qualities. It is drought-resistant, moderately resistant to infection by first-group rust, and possesses good technological properties of grain and flour. The seeding rate is 3.5-4.0 million germinating seeds per hectare, and the seeds are cleaned on the CIMBRIA HELD line and meet the requirements of DSTU 2240-93. The recommended cultivation zone is steppe, although it also shows good performance in forest-steppe and Polissia zones. Due to its agronomic characteristics and resistance to adverse conditions, Konstantinivs'ke millet is suitable for cultivation in various crop rotations, including post-grain and post-oilseed crops, making it a valuable reserve for increasing grain production. Traditional agronomic requirements for the crop allow effective use of this variety in modern agricultural systems.
