Wega Potato — an early table variety of German breeding, intended for obtaining a stable and high yield in a short time. The vegetation period is 50–60 days, allowing for a quick first harvest. The plant is of medium height, intermediate type, with upright or semi-upright stems and green leaves of medium to large size. Tubers are oval, with small eyes, covered with yellow skin, and the flesh is dark yellow. The average mass of marketable tubers is 87–120 grams, starch content varies from 10.1 to 15.9%.
The variety is characterized by high yield and marketability: market yield reaches 229–377 centners per hectare, significantly exceeding the performance of standard varieties such as Pushkinets and Dolphin. Yield on day 45 after emergence is 81–143 centners per hectare, and on day 55 — 109–187 centners, which matches the level of the best early varieties. Maximum yield may reach 484 centners per hectare. The taste of Wega potato is rated as good, tuber marketability is 87–95%, and storability reaches 99%, ensuring long-term storage without loss of quality.
Wega potato has high resistance to a range of diseases and adverse factors. It is resistant to potato cancer pathogen, golden potato cyst nematode, viruses, phytophthora, and black leg. Additionally, the variety tolerates heat, drought, and short-term frosts, making it suitable for cultivation in various regions, including the Central region of Ukraine and Tula region of Russia. Due to these characteristics, Wega is an excellent choice for farmers seeking an early, high-quality, and resilient potato harvest.
