Potato Vera

Stable potato yields under stress conditions

The "Vira" variety, developed by the Institute of Potato Research (NAAS), is designed for farmers looking for a balance between marketability and disease resistance. As a mid-season potato, it performs reliably across various soil types, making it a practical asset for crop rotation planning.

Practical application and cultivation

The primary reason to choose this variety for commercial production is its strong field resistance to late blight. This significantly reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications, which is crucial during the second half of the growing season when infection pressure increases. "Vira" produces uniform, oval-shaped tubers that are well-suited for mechanical harvesting and show high resistance to bruising during transport and long-term storage.

• Disease resistance: The variety shows high immunity to common scab and various types of rots, minimizing post-harvest losses and maintaining product quality in storage facilities.
• Market characteristics: The yellow skin combined with light-yellow flesh makes this potato versatile for fresh market sales and retail chains. The oval tuber shape facilitates efficient pre-sale processing, such as washing and packing.

This variety is ideal for farms aiming for stable yields without excessive chemical dependence. Its high resistance to diseases allows it to be successfully integrated into intensive potato production systems, lowering the cost per unit of production by reducing the frequency of protective spraying.
