The potato variety Gornyak is a medium-early table variety with a maturation period of 65 to 80 days. The plants are semi-upright, intermediate type, of medium height — about 50-80 cm, with a strong root system. Each plant forms 7 to 18 large tubers of round, regular shape with small, superficial eyes. The tuber skin is yellow, the flesh is light-yellow. The average tuber weight ranges from 87 to 183 grams, with individual specimens reaching up to 400 grams. The starch content in the flesh is at the level of 15.1-16.8%, ensuring the versatility of potato use in cooking, including soups and frying. The taste quality of tubers is rated as good, and the culinary type belongs to category B, with moderate softening.
The yield of the Gornyak variety is high and stable, with marketable yield varying from 167 to 264 centners per hectare, with maximum yields reaching up to 464 centners on some plots. The tuber marketability is 74-94%, and the storage durability reaches 97%, allowing long-term preservation of product quality. The leaves are of medium size, green to dark green, with large veins and weak or absent anthocyanin coloring on the inner side of the veins.
The variety is resistant to several diseases: it is resistant to potato cancer, wrinkled and striped mosaic, as well as leaf curl virus. Moderately resistant to late blight of stems and tubers, however, susceptible to golden potato cyst nematode. Due to its characteristics and disease resistance, the Gornyak variety is a reliable choice for cultivation in various regions, ensuring high quality and stable yield.
