Description BIRSKY
Potato variety BIRSKY is a medium-maturing table variety with a maturation period of 80 to 95 days. The plant is of medium height, semi-erect, with an intermediate leaf type, medium-sized green leaves. Tubers are round in shape with small eyes, light beige skin, and white flesh. The mass of marketable tubers ranges from 96 to 128 grams, and the number of tubers per plant ranges from 7 to 13. The starch content in the tubers is 15.9–18.7%, making this variety suitable for various culinary purposes, including boiling, baking, and making mashed potatoes. The yield of the BIRSKY variety is high and stable: marketable yield ranges from 137 to 292 centners per hectare, which is 47 centners higher than the Lugovskaya standard, and maximum yield reaches 313 centners per hectare, which is 31 centners more than the Aspia standard. The tuber marketability is 82–96%, and storability reaches 94%, ensuring good storage and preservation of the product. The taste of the tubers is rated as good to excellent, confirming the high consumer qualities of the variety. The BIRSKY variety is resistant to several diseases, including potato cancer (pathotype I), rugose mosaic, and leaf curling. However, it is susceptible to golden potato cyst nematode and moderately susceptible to late blight on stems and tubers. The developer of the variety is Bashkir State Agrarian University. Due to its characteristics and resistance to diseases, the BIRSKY variety is a reliable choice for cultivation in the Ural region.
