BABUSHKA

The potato variety Babushka is a mid-early table variety with a maturation period of 65 to 80 days. Plants are of medium height with semi-erect leaves of medium and large size, green in color. Tubers are oval in shape with small eyes, red skin, and light-yellow flesh. The weight of marketable tubers ranges from 92 to 192 grams, and starch content is from 15.5 to 18.5%. The variety has a marketability rate of 77-93%, and storability reaches 96%, ensuring good storage of the harvest.

The yield of the Babushka variety is high, ranging from 175 to 270 centners per hectare, which is 26-62 centners higher than varieties Nevskiy and Russian Souvenir. The maximum yield recorded is 273 centners per hectare, significantly exceeding standard varieties. The number of tubers per plant ranges from 9 to 12. The variety has excellent taste and is suitable for various cooking methods, including boiling, baking, and making mashed potatoes.

The Babushka variety exhibits resistance to potato cancer pathogen and mosaic virus, as well as tolerance to heat and drought. However, it is susceptible to late blight on tubers and foliage, as well as golden potato cyst nematode. These characteristics should be considered when selecting growing conditions and plant protection measures. The variety is recommended for cultivation in the Central Chernozem and Middle Volga regions.
