Description Italian Plums
The plum variety 'Uhorka Italiana' is a late-ripening variety originating from Northern Italy, officially registered in Ukraine since 1928. This variety gained wide popularity in the mid-20th century due to its high yield and excellent taste qualities. The tree is medium-sized, reaching up to 4 meters in height, with a spreading, flat-topped crown that can be round or broad-pyramidal with dense branching. The variety is characterized by high frost resistance of shoots and flower buds, as well as resistance to diseases and pests.

The fruits of 'Uhorka Italiana' are large, oval or elongated, dark-purple in color with a waxy coating. The flesh is yellow or yellowish-green, dense and juicy, with a rich sweet flavor and easily detachable pit. High sugar content makes this variety ideal for producing black plums with a light smoked flavor, as well as for fresh consumption and processing. The fruits are suitable for making jams, jellies, compotes, juices, pastilles, and freezing.

Fruiting begins on the 4th-5th year after planting, and by the 6th year, one tree can yield up to 50 kg of fruit. With proper care, the yield of mature trees increases and can exceed 100 kg, while 27-28-year-old trees can produce up to 180 kg of fruit annually. The fruits are well-suited for transportation and long-term storage — storage duration is 15-25 days if the skin remains intact. Thanks to these qualities, the variety is widely used both in home gardens and commercial cultivation.
