Description Bere Kyivskaya / Bere kiyv'ska
Bere Kyivskaya — a winter variety, developed at the Ukrainian Institute of Horticulture by crossing the varieties 'Lesnaya Krasavitsa' and 'Olivie de Serre'. The tree is medium-sized with a pyramidal, not dense crown, characterized by high cold resistance and regular fruiting. Seedlings are grafted onto the rootstock 'IS-4-6' quince, allowing them to start fruiting as early as the 2nd-4th year after planting. The plant has good immunity and moderate resistance to diseases, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions.

The fruits of Bere Kyivskaya are large, weighing from 170 to 300 grams and more, have an elongated pear shape and smooth surface. The skin is medium density, green with slight red blush. The flesh is creamy, tender, oily, juicy, and aromatic, with a pleasant sweet-tart flavor, confirmed by a high tasting score — 4.7 points. The fruits store well until February, making the variety popular for long-term storage and commercial cultivation.

For successful cultivation, it is recommended to plant pears on sunny sites with fertile, moderately moist, and non-heavy soils. Tree productivity gradually increases, reaching full yield by the 10th-12th year. Due to its high cold resistance, excellent taste, and good storability, Bere Kyivskaya is one of the best winter pear varieties, suitable both for private gardeners and commercial production.
