Description VASSA
Pear "Vassa" is a late-winter variety of Ukrainian selection, characterized by a vigorous tree with a medium-density pyramidal crown. The crown is narrowly pyramidal in young plants and broadly pyramidal in mature trees. Scaffolding branches are compactly arranged and depart from the trunk at an acute angle. Fruiting is regular, mostly on ringed shoots and small buds. Average yield of 6–9-year-old trees is about 257 c/ha, with a maximum of up to 410 c/ha. The variety is prone to abundant fruit set, which can lead to reduced fruit size and crop overload; therefore, annual regulating pruning is recommended.

Pears of the "Vassa" variety have a round shape, symmetrical with a broadly oval apex and base, golden-yellow in color with a light pink blush. Average fruit weight varies from 160 to 300 grams. The flesh is creamy, juicy, melting in the mouth, with a pleasant sweet-and-sour taste and a slight spicy note. The flesh color is creamy, highlighting the high quality of the fruits. The variety is partially self-fertile; for better pollination, it is recommended to plant varieties such as "Golden", "Bere Andrapon", "Dekanka zimnyaya" (Winter Dekanka), and "Bere Bosk" nearby.

Fruits are harvested in the first decade of October and possess high transportability. Under storage conditions at +2°C, pears retain their taste qualities until January, and at approximately -2°C, almost until the next harvest. To extend the storage period and improve taste, it is recommended to allow the fruits to ripen at room temperature for 5-10 days before consumption. The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness and disease resistance, making it attractive for cultivation in various climatic conditions.
