Etude

The Etude pear is an early winter variety with high taste quality and attractive fruit appearance. Fruits are large, weighing 200-250 grams, round or short-pear-shaped, with a main greenish-gray color that turns into a grayish-yellow with an orange blush at full maturity. The flesh is intensely creamy or yellow, very juicy and oily, without granules, with a slightly acidic-sweet flavor and a strong rose-like aroma. Harvesting for consumption begins in mid-October, with consumer readiness from November to December. In a cold storage room with normal atmosphere, fruits can be stored until March, ensuring prolonged use of the harvest. The Etude tree features rapid fruiting, beginning from 3-4 years, and high yield. It is vigorous, with a compact, wide pyramidal, and not dense crown, predominantly fruiting on last year's growth. Due to its low-growing spherical crown, the pear is well-suited for decorative plantings. The variety was developed at the Lviv Experimental Station for Horticulture by crossing 'Bere Gardi' and 'Josefina Mechelska' varieties and was included in the State Register in 1999. A notable feature of this variety is its high winter hardiness, resistance to fungal and bacterial diseases, and immunity to scab and pests. These qualities make Etude a reliable and low-maintenance variety for cultivation in Ukraine. Due to the combination of decorative and fruiting qualities, along with long fruit storage, the Etude pear is an excellent choice for both amateur gardeners and commercial cultivation.
