Description Vihnytsya
Vihnytsia pear — an autumn variety of Ukrainian selection, developed at the Lviv Experimental Station for Horticulture by breeders V.P. and K.N. Kopany. This variety is characterized by an intensive growth type, a medium-sized tree 2.5–3.5 meters tall with a moderately dense pyramidal crown. It begins fruiting on the 3rd–4th year and is marked by high and regular yields. A key feature of this variety is its high cold resistance and immunity to scab, significantly simplifying care and increasing yield reliability. The fruits of Vihnytsia pear are large, weighing 240–300 grams, with a regular pear shape and uniform color. The skin is medium-thick, dry, green with characteristic spots during harvest maturity, creating a rust-like effect. As they ripen, the fruits develop a bright golden-yellow hue with brown spots. The flesh is creamy, very juicy, tender, and oily, without graininess. The taste is harmonious, slightly acidic-sweet, with a distinct almond aroma, making this variety especially attractive to consumers. Harvesting occurs in the third decade of September, and the fruits can be stored in a refrigerator for up to 3 months, retaining their flavor and high transportability. Consumer ripeness occurs in October to the first half of November, and long-term storage until January–February practically does not affect the taste. Due to the combination of high yield, disease resistance, and excellent taste qualities, the Vihnytsia pear is considered one of the best Ukrainian varieties.
