Pea Zekon

Czech Precision in Legumes: Introducing the Zekon Pea Variety

When it comes to pulse production, the Czech breeder Selgen has established a reputation for developing varieties that balance productivity with practical field performance. The Zekon pea is a classic example of this philosophy. Designed primarily for grain production, this leafless (semi-leafless) variety has become a staple for farmers looking to streamline their harvest operations without sacrificing yield potential.

Agronomic Profile and Field Performance

The core strength of the Zekon variety lies in its plant architecture. Being a semi-leafless (tendril) type, it features excellent standability. This morphological advantage makes it highly suitable for direct combining, significantly reducing harvest losses—a major pain point for large-scale operations.

• Growth Cycle: With a vegetation period of 80–90 days, Zekon fits well into various crop rotation schemes.
• Seed Characteristics: The thousand-grain weight falls within the 240–260 gram range, with a protein content of 20–22%.
• Disease Resistance: The variety shows notable resistance to anthracnose and various rot complexes, which helps farmers maintain a lower fungicide dependency throughout the season.

Zekon represents a reliable European breeding standard. Its moderate height and robust health make it an ideal choice for intensive farming environments where consistency is key. Whether the output is intended for the food industry or animal feed, Zekon provides a uniform, high-quality sample that meets modern market expectations for efficiency and quality.
