Registered in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 2004.
Originator — Institute of Plant Growing named after V. Ya. Yuryev, NAAN.
Variety distinguishing features. Variety — contecstum (linked), sub-variety — mеsomelan (black seed hilum). Semi-dwarf type. Plant height — 75 — 100 cm. Nodes to the first flower — 13 — 15. Flowers white, 2 — 3 flowers on the pedicel, pod type — lustrous, straight, blunt apex. Seed number per pod — 4 — 5, maximum — 7. Seeds round, pink, with black seed hilum, well-aligned.
Agronomic features. Grain use variety. Vegetation period — 75 — 78 days. 1000-seed mass — 250 — 280 g. Protein content in seeds — 22 — 24%. Drought-resistant. Resistant to lodging, suitable for direct combine harvesting. In 2004, at the Belytsivskaya Experimental Station of the «Southern» Research Institute, among 20 tested varieties, Modus showed the highest yield — 5.78 t/ha. In 2008, at Volnyansk DSS of Zaporozhskaya Oblast, Modus yield reached 3.44 t/ha. In 2010, at the demonstration plot of the Khmelnytsky Institute of Agricultural Production, yield was 2.34 t/ha. In steppe Crimea, during 2007 — 2010, average yield of the variety was 2.03 t/ha, maximum yield — 3.13 t/ha — in 2008 and 2010.
In production conditions, at the LLC «Pobeda» of Fastovsky District, Kyiv Oblast, in 2012, yield was 4.25 t/ha. Patent No. 04103, patent No. 09248.
