Pea Garde

Practical insights on Garde peas

For agronomists managing large acreages, crop tech-efficiency is paramount. The 'Garde' variety from the Czech breeder Moravoseed delivers high consistency. The key advantage of this pea is its semi-leafless ('mustachioed') type. In the field, this means the crop stands vertically and does not lodge, which significantly simplifies the harvesting process.

Efficient harvesting with minimal losses

When using direct harvesting, this variety performs exceptionally well. The lack of excess vegetative mass reduces the load on the combine header. In high-moisture conditions, the stems do not mat together, ensuring the thresher runs smoothly without clogging risks.

Cultivation and operational tips

Garde was specifically developed as a grain variety, so its potential is best realized in commercial production. When working with it, it is important to adhere to the soil nutrition standards typical for Czech breeding. Because the variety is 'mustachioed,' the canopy has excellent airflow, reducing the risk of fungal diseases in the lower stems. Seed rates are standard, but due to the high germination energy inherent in Moravoseed material, the emergence is very uniform. With the correct combine settings, grain loss is virtually non-existent, making Garde an economically sound choice for farms focused on high-quality commercial grain output.
