Pea Astronaute

Working with Astronaut peas: an agronomist's view

Choosing the right seeds is about balancing potential yield with operational efficiency. The German pea variety Astronaut by NPZ Lembke has proven to be a reliable choice that consistently delivers performance, regardless of how challenging the season gets.

Handling and Harvesting

The standout feature is the leafless (semi-leafless) growth habit. This makes direct harvesting a breeze; the combine can maintain good ground speed without clogging the header.

Disease Resistance and Development

With a vegetation period of 70–80 days, this variety fits perfectly into a well-planned crop rotation. When following a standard protection program, these issues barely show up. The plants mature uniformly, which takes the guesswork out of desiccation and scheduling the harvest window.

Yield and Quality

With a thousand-seed weight ranging from 200 to 260 grams, the grain size is excellent for commercial markets. The plants grow to a medium height, which is ideal for canopy management—ensuring that crop protection products are delivered efficiently to the target zone. If you are looking for a variety that offers high yield potential without the maintenance headaches of traditional varieties, Astronaut is a top-tier performer.
