ZAURALSKIY 3 — a mid-season pea variety developed by Russian breeders of the scientific and production agro-holding «Kurgansemena». It is intended for cultivation in the 3-semi-desert zone, including the Kurgan and Chelyabinsk regions. The vegetation period is 66-88 days, allowing for a stable yield under variable climate conditions. Plant height ranges from 58 to 90 cm, with a total number of internodes of 17-18 and 14-15 to the first inflorescence. Flowers are white, located 1-2 per peduncle of medium length, rarely 3. Leaves are semi-stemless (vining type) with normal stipules, which contributes to resistance to lodging.
The variety is characterized by high yield — on average 10-12.2 c/ha, which exceeds the indicators of standard varieties. Mass of 1000 seeds ranges from 177 to 224.1 g, seeds are light yellow, round, smooth and matte with a light hilum fused with the seed pod, ensuring non-shattering of seeds. One pod contains 5 to 8 seeds. Protein content in grain reaches 28%, and grain yield is 85-90%, making the variety attractive for grain-fodder purposes as well as for technical and culinary use.
ZAURALSKIY 3 has medium resistance to major diseases, such as ascochitis, powdery mildew, and rust, while resistance to root rots is low. Drought resistance is medium, at the level of standard regional varieties. High resistance to lodging and seed shattering ensures crop preservation and grain quality during harvesting and storage. Due to its characteristics, the variety is a reliable choice for agrarians seeking high-quality and high-yielding peas in semi-desert conditions.
