Description Corrado
Corrado Onion is a modern ultra-early hybrid winter onion variety developed in the Netherlands. It features large bulbs of round-flat shape with a dense golden-yellow skin and a semi-sharp, pleasant taste. Thanks to its robust root system and adaptability to various soils, the variety ensures a stable and high yield, averaging 80 kg per 100 sq. m. Corrado onion is versatile in application: suitable both for growing green onions and for long-term storage, offering extended shelf life of up to 6-7 months, as well as high transportability and disease resistance, including immunity to downy mildew. For planting, light soils, loamy sands, or loams prepared in autumn with digging, fertilization, and drainage installation are recommended. Winter onions are planted in October or November, depending on the region, in a sunny area protected from cold winds. Seedlings are planted 4-6 cm deep with the flat side down, with inter-row spacing of 20 cm and plant spacing of 5-10 cm. To protect against freezing, beds are covered with agrofabric or a layer of sawdust. Harvest begins 2-2.5 months earlier compared to spring planting, allowing for green onion harvest in April and large bulbs in May-June. Care for the Corrado variety includes regular watering, soil loosening, and weed removal. Cold water from wells is not recommended for irrigation. Nitrogen-containing fertilizers are beneficial during active growth to increase yield. The onion does not bolt, is cold-hardy, and disease-resistant, making it easy to grow in home conditions. Additionally, consuming Corrado onion helps reduce blood viscosity and normalize blood pressure, which is beneficial for atherosclerosis prevention.
