Medonos is a mid-early variety of chive that is distinguished by its high yield and resistance to diseases and winter cold. This perennial onion is valued for the sharp, semi-sharp taste of its tender, vitamin-rich greens. The plant's leaves are dark green with a light waxy coating, giving them a decorative appearance. Thanks to its beautiful spherical inflorescences with pink and lilac flowers, the variety is widely used not only in cooking but also in landscape design of home plots, and is suitable for growing at home in pots.
The crop cycle of the variety ranges from 36 to 85 days depending on growing conditions, allowing for several harvests of greens per season. The yield reaches 1.7-2.0 kg per square meter. The plant is characterized by a synchronized spring growth and a prolonged release of tender leaves, which can be harvested several times during the vegetation period before flowering begins. The basal bulb of Medonos is weakly developed, which contributes to rapid recovery and prolonged fruiting in one place for 4-5 years.
For successful cultivation, it is recommended to plant Medonos on moist, sandy-clay soils, cleared of weeds. It is propagated by seeds and bush division, sowing which is conducted from early spring to June or in the fall. The seed sowing depth is 0.5-1 cm. Thanks to its frost hardiness and resistance to downy mildew, this variety is excellent for growing in various climatic conditions, providing a stable and quality yield of greens year-round.
