Onion Vulkan

A consistent yield of high-quality greens

The «Vulkan» bunching onion by the Japanese breeder Kitano Seeds is a specialized hybrid designed specifically for professional green onion production. Unlike generic varieties, «Vulkan» is engineered exclusively for high-quality salad-grade scallions, making it a strategic asset for commercial vegetable farming.

Key Advantages

• Pathogen Resistance: Downy mildew and powdery mildew are significant threats to green onion crops. «Vulkan» features high-level genetic resistance, allowing growers to significantly reduce the frequency of fungicide applications.
• Optimized Growth Cycle: With a maturation period of up to 90 days, it allows for precise crop scheduling to ensure harvest readiness exactly when market demand peaks.
• Premium Foliage: The plant develops robust, upright, dark green leaves. The stems maintain their visual appeal, do not lodge, and possess high density—critical factors for successful post-harvest handling and transport.

Who is this hybrid for?

«Vulkan» is designed for farmers who rely on manual harvesting. Due to the high uniformity of the plants, the harvest process is both fast and efficient. It is valued for its consistency: even in volatile climates, it delivers high yields of top-tier salad greens. It is important to note that this is a niche tool for the greens market. If your primary goal is bulb production, other varieties within the Kitano Seeds range would be more suitable. However, for those seeking the perfect salad onion, this hybrid stands as a benchmark of Japanese breeding, blending disease resistance with exceptional marketability.
