Mellory F1 Onion is a mid-early, high-yielding hybrid of bulb onion, developed by the breeding company Bejo Zaden. It is intended for cultivation in southern and arid regions, as well as in Ukraine and Moldova. The maturation period ranges from 114 to 125 days, allowing for a harvest within a single season. The plant has a well-developed root system and large dark green leaves with a waxy coating, which promotes active biomass accumulation even under stressful conditions. The hybrid is resistant to pink root rot, Peronospora, and Fusarium, ensuring harvest stability and high product quality.
Mellory bulbs have a round shape and an attractive appearance with golden-bronze or dark brown upper scales. The inner scales are thick, fleshy, crisp, snow-white, and possess a pleasant sweetish taste with moderate spiciness, without bitterness. The onion is characterized by high density and excellent upper scale retention, contributing to good shelf life and long-term storage—up to 190-205 days. Thanks to these qualities, Mellory is suitable for fresh consumption, as well as for processing, canning, drying, freezing, and preparing various dishes.
The hybrid adapts well to various weather conditions and is suitable for mechanized harvesting. It is recommended to sow seeds at a rate of about one million per hectare, which ensures optimal bulb formation. Mellory F1 combines high yield, disease and stress resistance, and excellent taste qualities, making it a universal and reliable choice for farmers and gardeners.
