Nemchinovskiy 97 is a narrow-leaved lupin (Lupinus angustifolius L.) variety characterized by early maturity and a short vegetative period of 82 to 102 days, making it particularly suitable for northern regions with a limited growing season. The plant is medium-height and upright, indeterminate, with dark green leaves and white flowers with a yellow keel tip. Seeds are white without ornamentation and contain 0.058%–0.12% alkaloids, corresponding to the low-alkaloid class.
The variety demonstrates high yield: average dry matter production of green mass reaches 381 c/ha, and seeds range from 15.2 to 24.8 c/ha depending on the region. Compared to regional standards, Nemchinovskiy 97 exceeds them by several tens of percent, confirming its efficiency as a fodder crop and protein source for compound feeds.
Nemchinovskiy 97 is distinguished by good pathogen resistance: infected by Fusarium in a weak degree, and root rots are moderate. The plant grows well on cohesive loamy soils and shows moderate sandy tolerance. Thanks to high cold hardiness and early maturity, this variety is suitable for use as green manure as well as a protein supplement in concentrated feeds.
