Alfalfa Rosana

Stable Yields in Challenging Conditions

The Rosana alfalfa variety, developed by the Institute of Agriculture of the NAAS of Ukraine, is designed for farms prioritizing long-term stand persistence and nutritional quality in their forage base. Unlike many imported hybrids that demand intensive cultivation, this variety demonstrates remarkable plasticity to the soil and climatic conditions across Ukraine.

Key Growth Characteristics

Reaching a height of 70–90 cm, the crop forms a dense stand with high leafiness. The precise balance between vegetative biomass and reproductive organs ensures consistently high protein levels in the dry matter. Key advantages include:

• High winter hardiness, enabling the crop to successfully survive snowless periods.
• Resistance to lodging, which simplifies the mechanized harvesting process.
• Strong regenerative capacity — the plant recovers quickly after cutting, providing up to 3–4 harvests per season.

Why Choose Rosana?

This variety is an optimal choice for livestock enterprises needing high-quality haylage or hay with high protein content. It is forgiving of minor agronomic errors, making it suitable for farms with constrained budgets for intensive chemical protection or mineral fertilizers. However, when managed with intensive practices, Rosana performs competitively against leading European varieties in terms of green mass yield per hectare.

It is important to note that the variety is sensitive to soil acidity; therefore, liming is recommended on acidic soils to achieve maximum potential. For producers looking for a field-proven Ukrainian product with predictable outcomes, Rosana is a reliable solution.
