Description
Long-fruited honeysuckle is a medium-sized shrub, up to 1.5 m tall, with thin, curved, brownish-green shoots with a purple tint. Leaves are small or medium, lanceolate, dark green, pointed at the base or rounded.
Berries are large, elongated (up to 5 cm), weighing from 0.8 to 2.5 g. They have a cylindrical shape with slight side compression and a warty surface, colored purple-blue with a greyish bloom. The taste is sweet and sour, dessert-like, without bitterness; the aroma is refreshing. Berries are suitable for both fresh consumption and processing: jams, preserves, juices, compotes, wines, as well as freezing and drying.
The variety is characterized by early ripening – mid-June (in some years, the first decade of June), resistant to fruit shedding. Yield is high: from 1.5 kg to 3 kg depending on the year. The internal composition of berries includes up to 9% sugar, 2.2–2.9% acid, and up to 48 mg/100 g of vitamin C.
