Alicia

Alicia Lonicera is a mid-late variety of Ukrainian selection, bred in 2009. The bush grows to 1–1.2 m and has a compact spherical shape with spreading branches, which facilitates harvest collection. Flowering occurs in May, and fruits ripen in the first decade of June, when their color is dark blue, elliptical or elongated shape, weighing about 1 g. Berries have a sweetish sweet-and-sour taste, thin skin and tender flesh that do not shed after full ripening.

The variety is known for high yield – up to 2 kg per bush. The first fruits can be obtained already in the year of planting, and from the second year the yield stabilizes and can be twice per season under favorable weather conditions. 'Alicia' is resistant to frost, pests and fungal diseases, does not require special shelter for winter and adapts easily to various soils, although it grows best in neutral, loose soil with moderate watering.

Berries are rich in antioxidants, ascorbic acid and microelements (potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium), making them beneficial for health. They are suitable for fresh consumption, freezing or processing into jams, compotes and other products. For optimal fruiting, it is recommended to plant a group of 3–5 bushes of different varieties of Lonicera, since 'Alicia' requires cross-pollination. The best results are achieved on the sunny side of the plot, protected from strong wind.
