Lettuce Knyazhich

Technical Profile of the 'Knyazhych' Lettuce

Developed by the Kyiv Research Station of the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing (UAAS), the 'Knyazhych' variety is a classic leaf lettuce tailored for the Ukrainian climate. The breeding focus was primarily on stabilizing vegetative growth cycles, making it a reliable tool for commercial vegetable production.

Morphological and Vegetative Parameters

• Rosette Architecture: The plant forms a compact, well-structured medium-density rosette. The vertical arrangement of leaves promotes airflow within the plant, which is critical for reducing the incidence of fungal pathogens in high-humidity conditions.
• Coloration: The leaf blades feature a distinct light-green hue. This indicates an efficient photosynthetic system capable of maintaining turgor even during moderate temperature fluctuations.
• Maturity: This is a mid-season variety. It reaches technical maturity within a standard timeframe, allowing farmers to integrate it effectively into their harvest production schedules.

The practical value of 'Knyazhych' lies in its consistency. The average weight of the rosette allows for easy standardization during packaging. The leaf structure exhibits sufficient firmness for transportation, while the balanced growth rate reduces the risk of premature bolting, which is a common challenge for mid-season varieties grown in outdoor conditions.
