The 'April'skoe' apple variety is a late-winter variety created by crossing the Macintosh and Rossoshanskoe Polosoate varieties. The tree is of medium height with a pyramidal, sparse crown and thick, zigzag branches of dark cherry color. Leaves are large, elongated, light green, smooth, and matte. The fruits have a round-conical shape, weighing about 184-200 grams, with a greenish-yellow coloration and a burgundy-red blush on the sun-exposed side. The fruit flesh is dense, fine-grained, tender, juicy, and aromatic, with an acidic-sweet dessert taste rated 4.7 points. The chemical composition of the fruits includes 10.5% sugars, 0.48% titratable acids, and 15.8 mg of ascorbic acid per 100 grams. The fruits store well until mid-April, ensuring high storability and good market quality.
The variety is characterized by good winter hardiness, withstanding temperatures up to -40°C, and moderate drought resistance. Yield is high, reaching up to 17.6 tons per hectare on rootstocks 54-118. However, the tree begins fruiting late, at 6-7 years after planting, and increases yield annually. Despite resistance to major diseases, the variety can suffer from scab during unfavorable summer periods, requiring attention during cultivation.
The 'April'skoe' apple tree is recommended for cultivation in the Central Black Earth region, as well as in the Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod regions. Due to its characteristics and adaptation to the climate conditions of these regions, the variety is popular among gardeners who value large, aromatic fruits with long storage periods and high winter hardiness.
