Corn hybrid Dnipro 453 SV is a simple modified mid-season hybrid with FAO 290-300, developed by the Institute of Grain Crops of NAAN of Ukraine and registered in the Variety Register since 2015. This hybrid is distinguished by high resistance to lodging and stem breakage, ensuring stable and high yields. The plant reaches a height of 220-250 cm, does not bush, and the ear attachment height is 80-100 cm. The cylindrical ear, 20-24 cm long, contains 16-18 rows of kernels, with 36-43 kernels per row and a red core. The kernels are yellow-orange, dent-type, with a 1000-kernel weight ranging from 280 to 320 g.
The hybrid exhibits good drought tolerance and high resistance to major corn diseases, such as common smut, gray leaf spot, corn head smut, and stalk rot. Due to high resistance to lodging (9 points), late harvest is possible without significant yield losses. Dnipro 453 SV responds well to improved growing conditions, possesses a medium-plastic genotype, and is suitable for cultivation in Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polesie zones.
The recommended planting density in the Steppe zone is 55-60 thousand plants per hectare. The potential grain yield reaches 13.5 t/ha, while silage yield is 58-63 t/ha. The grain has lower storage moisture compared to some other hybrids, facilitating storage and processing. For successful cultivation, it is recommended to follow agronomic practices, including proper crop rotation, optimal planting dates and rates, as well as integrated protection against diseases and pests.
